Off Week

Anthony here. Ahhh the off week. relaxing yet unfulfilling all at the same time. Just finished reading all the books I bought at Wizard World. Read about four or five books a night. It was great.

After ripping on Rob Liefeld last week, I saw this pic and totally thought about his take on Cap.

Be sure to check back next week for our next episode.

Funny Pages Issue #4

Sorry to throw off the rotation, but we've got special guest artist E.C. sitting in with us this week so we had to shuffle the schedule around a little bit. E.C. is a great artist, but unfortunately his website is down, but as soon as it's up we'll be sure to post the links.

This week, Chris shows you the who's who's in the world of Supergod #4 From Avatar Press. Anthony ventures out to new turf with Phoenix Without Ashes #1. And guest E.C. reviews the second trade of one of the most popular books on the racks, Fables.

Back by popular demand, OK we just like to talk about it: "Who'd You'd Rather". This time around we've got two of the Dark Knight's femme fatales. It's the tree huggin', green skinned mistress of the flora Poison Ivy, up against The Joker's main squeeze, the one and only Harley Quinn. Be sure to vote on the blog for Who'd You'd Rather.

Thanks again for listening hopefully we'll see you at Wizard World this weekend.

Hello VIP members,

Chris here just popping in to say AWWW SHOOT!

Our podcast now has over 100 downloads (and rising!) on Itunes, which got Anthony & I totally super pumped. In fact, so rowdy were our emotions that we decided to do the world a favor and record a brand new show, which we'll be releasing later this weekend (Anthony still has some tinkering to do in the lab to remove the ugly from our voices). As a special treat to our loyal fans and loyally-programmed fanbots, we've even had an awesome special guest come in to help us muck around, tell dirty jokes, and discuss the finer points of illustrated jugs.

Our level of shock at passing 100 downloads
So anyways, stay tuned for our next exciting episode of the Funny Pages Podcast, I promise it's more fun than the new Zatanna run!

-Also, we'll be at the Chicago Comic-Con this Sunday, so if you see two frustrated nerds nervously pawing over the entire run of Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane, come over and say hi!

Michael Cera is a tool

Greetings loyal followers,

Chris here. hope you all enjoyed this episode as much as I did (can you get much better than your friend admitting their wrongness on tape and then publishing it to the web?). Anyways, I feel like I went a bit easy on the Scott Pilgrim movie/my dislike for Michael Cera. So sit back and let's take this shit to the streets.

All the best parts of the movie

Michael Cera, you are obviously favored by God. You are rich, famous, and I'll bet that you're armpit-deep in hipster pussy. I salute you for all this(*brofist*). I still don't like you.

Every time I see a Michael Cera movie, I always feel the same at the end. "Well gee, that was well and dandy but wasn't George Michael from Arrested Devleopment pretty much the same character?? And wasn't A/D way funnier anyways?". I've seen basically your full acting catalog, and I've already seen it at it's best. Why do I want to watch you play increasingly less funny/interesting takes on the same character? Sure sure, Superbad was great, but you were still playing the same awkward, painfully shy, perpetual virgin that I had seen in... well, all your other work.

I can't help but shake the feeling that Michael Cera is but a tool of the movie industry, nefariously placed in film to ensure ticket sales amongst twenty-something, PBR drinking lowlifes who think Thundercat t-shirts are awesome (i.e. you and I). Based on Anthony's review, I suspect those exact words were spoken in a boardroom at Universal. We all know how much it sucks when some of the really cool elements of a book are changed in the transition to mainstream blockbuster (looking you at, Ozymandias). Any film that is going to appeal so strongly to my nostalgic love of all things 8-bit is going to be held to a higher standard of earnesty. Unfortunately, the casting of Cera in the lead role has seriously harmed this film's credibility in my eyes. Sure, I will still see it, and I may even grudgingly admit to liking it (doubtful). But still... Michael Cera? Really? Isn't this move Canadian enough as is?

Funny Pages Issue #3

As promised, here's the show. We've got a jam packed episode for you today; not that it's full of jam, just that there is a lot of content. Check out the trailer for our first movie review: Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. Anthony has to admit something he never thought he would.

We've got two heavy hitting comic book writers in the reviews. Chris flips through Grant Morrison's latest Batman & Robin story arc "Mexican Train". Anthony takes you through the crazy, time traveling, multi-dimension, three faced mutant monk, blow your mind Matt Fraction's Casanova #2. Don't worry. We're confused too.

And what kind of episode would it be if we didn't argue about something awesome? Check out our host verbally duke it out over Marvel's Sniktiest Superhero: Wolverine. Enough reading and click play all ready.

Sorry Everyone

Hey Everyone, Anthony Here. Due mostly to poor time management on my part, no show today. Sorry. But we'll have a brand new show for you up Tuesday. We hate to keep you waiting, but if you don't like it, you don't have to listen. PLEASE LISTEN! Tell a friend to listen too. OK? We still cool?

Maybe this will help hold you over. It's an old report I did back at NIU for NTC News. Go ahead and have a good laugh. You can even point if it makes you happy. I've come to terms with my nerdness.

The Avengers 1952

Anthony here. Chris will start posting real soon. I swear. In case you haven't seen it yet, check out this trailer from The Avengers circa 1952
When I first saw this, I was about to head over to pirate bay and bootle.... I mean my local library and check out a legitimate copy of this wonderful piece of cinema history well worth paying for.

But then I realized two things. One, I'm a moron. Two, it's a premake. There's a grand total of twelve Marvel cameo's in the trailer. I caught ten. To check against the answer key, click here.

Did That Really Just Happen?

Anthony here. So I had the TV on last night while I was editing together the podcast last night, and Entourage just happened to be on the tube. I don't really watch Entourage all that much, but last night the super hot porn star Sasha Grey was guest starring as herself. OK. It's on, but I'm not paying attention.

Then I hear the voice of the unmistakable Generalissimo Stan "The Man" Lee. Now I had headphones on so I couldn't quite follow the seen, but I'm pretty sure they got Stan to admit that he watches porn.

Check it out:

Funny Pages Issue #2

We’re back just as promised, and we’ve brought with us our second podcast just for you. The audio quality is a lot better, but at this point we might just build our own recording studio.

This week we take a look at two new runs. Anthony has a review of the latest run for the JLA’s strongest magician Zatanna. Maybe you’ve seen The Mistress of Magic in Smallville, while Chris opens up Mark Millar’s latest page burner Nemesis.

In comic book news, Alan Moore and Warner Bros. is in talks about Watchmen prequels and sequels. Well, WB is talking, and Alan Moore is flipping them the bird and chanting hex spells. Just kidding. We love Alan Moore. Please Mr. Moore, don’t curse us. One of us is on your side.

Come join in on our comic book talks. Be sure to check out the discussion section on our Facebook page. We're getting pretty sick of talking just to each other.
